ROCK your RIDE.

What is indoor cycling?

  • A cardio workout on a specialized stationary bike with a weighted flywheel

  • You control the resistance lever and speed that makes your workout easier or harder

  • An instructor leads you on a ride set to music

Why should I cycle indoors?

  • It’s fun

  • Winter is long

  • It’s an individualized workout, which means you’re always in control of your effort level

  • Research shows that indoor cycling can help us live longer by keeping our heart and muscles healthy and strong, and fights aging at the cellular level

  • Exercising with a group makes it more fun and holds you accountable

  • You get a well-rounded workout that varies in resistance, speed, effort, and recovery

What do I need to start?

  • Clean, indoor sneakers or clip-in bike shoes.

    • Stiff-soled shoes are best. A light (and clean!) cross-trainer is preferred to a soft-soled running shoe, which may bend easily when in a standing position.

  • Comfortable exercise clothing in sweat-wicking fabrics

  • Bike shorts or pants with padding, available at RIDE for $25

  • Clearance from your physician, if you have any health issues

What’s the first time like?

  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes before class so that you can be fitted on the bike

  • Music is a huge part of indoor cycling so be prepared for rockin’ playlists to get you moving and keep you motivated; we have ear plugs if you prefer

  • We recommend the GENTLE 30 your first time. In this class, you’ll be guided by clear, easy-to-follow instructions. At any time, you can ask questions about anything that is unclear

  • Every class begins with a warm up, and then moves to the main work where you’ll mostly work in short intervals with plenty of recovery to help you get comfortable while building muscular and cardiovascular strength on the bike, and then end with a cool-down and stretching
